【2026. 7. 16】JICA Yokohama Visits Yugawara Town to Encourage Thai Volunteer and Strengthen International Cooperation / JICA横浜センターが湯河原町を訪問 ― タイ人海外協力隊員を激励、国際協力のさらなる発展へ

In July 2026, Mr. Hajime Tsuboi, Director Gereral of JICA Yokohama Center, together with JICA staff member Ms. Chihiro Kamei, visited Yugawara Town in Kanagawa Prefecture.

For more than 60 years, the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), now part of the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers programme, has promoted citizen-based international cooperation by supporting socioeconomic development in partner countries while fostering mutual understanding through people-to-people exchanges.

Inspired by this model, Thailand has also implemented overseas volunteer programmes for many years and now dispatches volunteers to Japan. Since June 2026, Ms. Name, a Thai volunteer, has been serving in Yugawara Town, contributing to the local community through her activities.

During the visit, Director General Mr. Tsuboi and the JICA delegation encouraged Ms. Name in her work. They also paid a courtesy visit to Yugawara Town's Vice Mayor with a former JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer, and exchanged views on the ongoing SMART & STRONG Project, which promotes community-based healthy ageing and international collaboration between Japan and Thailand.

The visit further strengthened the partnership between Japan and Thailand while reaffirming the value of grassroots international cooperation and collaborative efforts toward creating age-friendly communities.

2026年7月16日、JICA横浜センターの坪井創所長と亀井千裕職員が神奈川県湯河原町を訪問しました。

JICA海外協力隊（青年海外協力隊）は、市民参加型の国際協力として60年以上にわたり開発途上国の社会・経済発展に貢献するとともに、人と人との交流を通じた相互理解の促進にも大きな役割を果たしてきました。

タイもこの理念に学び、長年にわたり海外ボランティア派遣を実施しており、近年では日本へのボランティア派遣も行っています。2026年6月からはタイ人ボランティアのネームさんが湯河原町で活動を開始し、地域社会の発展に向けてさまざまな分野で貢献しています。

今回の訪問では、坪井所長らがネームさんの活動現場を訪れ、激励を行いました。また、湯河原町出身のJICA海外協力隊経験者による、副町長への表敬訪問を行うとともに、JICAと湯河原町が連携して進めるSMART & STRONG Projectについて意見交換を実施しました。

今回の訪問は、日本とタイの相互交流をさらに深めるとともに、地域に根ざした国際協力と高齢社会への取組を発展させる貴重な機会となりました。
