SMART & STRONG Project at the Social Development Expo 2026 (SDX2026) / Social Development Expoに出展しました！

From 21 to 23 August 2026, the SMART & STRONG PROJECT participated in the Social Development Expo 2026 (SDX2026), held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani near Bangkok, as the JICA booth. Mayor Lansan Natthakawong, along with doctors, nurses, municipal staff, and other representatives from Bueng Yitho Municipality, also visited the event. They introduced the SMART & STRONG Project’s activities and engaged in exchanges and discussions with visitors.

SDX is one of Thailand’s largest social development events, bringing together government agencies, local authorities, international organisations, universities, private-sector organisations, NGOs and other actors working across the social development and welfare sectors.

Under the 2026 theme, “Co-Creating a Better Society,” the three-day expo showcased a wide range of initiatives addressing ageing, disability, social welfare, community development and social inclusion.

At the JICA booth, the SMART & STRONG Project was featured to introduce its work on community-based care for older people and collaboration between local governments in Japan and Thailand.

Throughout the three-day event, many visitors stopped by the booth to learn about the project and exchange ideas on approaches to supporting older people by making use of local resources and community networks. The expo also provided valuable opportunities to connect with local authorities, government agencies, universities, NGOs and other organisations involved in social development in Thailand.

One of the most valuable aspects of participating in SDX2026 was the opportunity to meet people from different sectors and learn from their experiences.

Events such as SDX are not only spaces for presenting projects and sharing information. A conversation can begin simply because two organisations happen to have neighbouring booths. Learning about each other’s experiences can lead to new connections, ideas and possibilities for future collaboration.

This spirit of co-creation and mutual learning is also at the heart of the SMART & STRONG Project. Through collaboration between communities and local governments in Japan and Thailand, the project aims to create opportunities for people to learn from one another and explore locally appropriate approaches to supporting healthy and meaningful ageing.

We hope to build on the connections and conversations that began at SDX2026 and continue working with our partners toward more sustainable, community-based care systems for older people.

2026年8月21日から23日まで、タイ・バンコク近郊のムアントンタニにあるIMPACTで開催された「Social Development Expo 2026（SDX2026）」に、JICAブースとしてSMART＆STRONG プロジェクトが出展しました。ランサン・ナタカウォン市長をはじめ、ブンイトー市から医師、看護師、市職員などの関係者も会場を訪れ、プロジェクトの取り組みを紹介するとともに、来場者との交流や意見交換を行いました。

SDXは、タイ国内の社会開発・福祉に関わる政府機関、自治体、国際機関、大学、企業、NGOなどが一堂に会する、タイ最大規模の社会開発イベントです。2026年のテーマは、「Co-Creating a Better Society（一緒によりよい社会をつくる）」。高齢化、障害、福祉、地域づくり、社会的包摂など、幅広い分野からさまざまな取り組みが紹介されました。

今回のJICAブースでは、SMART＆STRONG プロジェクトに焦点を当て、タイの自治体と日本の自治体との交流を通じた地域包括ケアや高齢者支援の取り組みについて紹介しました。

会期中は、多くの来場者がブースを訪れ、プロジェクトの活動や、地域の資源を活用した高齢者支援の取り組みについて意見を交わしました。また、タイ国内の自治体、政府機関、大学、NGOなど、さまざまな立場の方々と交流する機会にも恵まれました。

イベントでは、異なる分野の活動を紹介するブースが隣り合い、そこから自然に会話が生まれており、お互いの経験や課題を知ることで、「一緒に何かできるのではないか」という新たな可能性が見えてくることもありました。

当プロジェクトが大切にしているのも、こうした地域同士が学び合い、それぞれの経験や資源を持ち寄りながら、よりよい地域のあり方を共に考え模索することです。

今回のSDX2026で生まれた新たな出会いやつながりを、今後の活動や自治体間の交流、そして高齢者ケアの仕組みづくりにつなげていきたいと思います。
